Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our services

What areas do you serve?

We're located at 6320 Baltimore Pike in Littlestown, PA and serve the surrounding areas including Gettysburg, Hanover, McSherrystown, New Oxford, Taneytown, Westminster, Emmitsburg, Manchester, and Parkville. We also welcome customers from across Adams County and nearby parts of Maryland. If you need towing, we can arrange pickup from anywhere in the region.

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes, we offer free estimates on all repairs. Bring your vehicle by the shop or give us a call to set up an appointment. We'll assess the damage, explain what needs to be done, and provide a detailed written estimate — no obligation and no pressure.

Do you work with all insurance companies?

Yes, we work with all major insurance carriers. Whether you have GEICO, State Farm, Progressive, Allstate, or any other provider, we'll handle the claims process directly so you don't have to. We communicate with your adjuster, submit the paperwork, and keep things moving so your repair stays on track.

Can I get a rental car while my vehicle is being repaired?

Yes, we can arrange a loaner car for you while your vehicle is in the shop. In many cases, your insurance policy includes rental car coverage, so the cost is partially or fully covered. If your policy doesn't include it or you're paying out of pocket, we work with local rental providers to get you a fair rate. Just let us know when you drop off your vehicle and we'll take care of the rest.

Do you offer a warranty on repairs?

Yes. We stand behind every job with a lifetime warranty on our workmanship. If anything we repaired doesn't hold up, bring it back and we'll make it right — no questions asked. It's our way of making sure you drive away with complete confidence in the work we've done.

Do you repair rust damage on frames and body panels?

Yes — rust repair is one of our specialties. We handle everything from rusted truck frames and rocker panels to wheel wells and body panel rust-through. Our process involves cutting out the corroded metal, welding in new steel, and finishing with primer and paint to protect against future corrosion. Whether it's car frame rust repair, truck frame rust from road salt, or bubbling paint that's starting to eat through, we have the welding expertise to fix it properly. We've repaired rust damage on everything from daily drivers to work trucks and commercial vans.

Could I be entitled to additional compensation after an accident?

Yes — many drivers don't realize they may be owed more than just the cost of repairs. If your vehicle was in an accident, you could be entitled to a diminished value claim (your car is worth less after an accident, even with a perfect repair), a total loss appraisal if your insurance declared your vehicle a total loss and you believe their payout doesn't reflect its true market value, or a post-repair inspection to make sure a previous shop did the work correctly. We partner with Collision Safety Consultants, who specialize in appraisal clauses, diminished value claims, total loss disputes, umpire services, and post-repair inspections. Ask us about it and we'll connect you with the right people.

What should I do after an accident?

First, make sure everyone is safe and call 911 if there are injuries. Exchange insurance and contact information with the other driver, and take photos of the damage and the scene. File a police report if needed, then contact your insurance company to start a claim. Once that's taken care of, bring your vehicle to us or give us a call — we'll handle the rest, from the initial assessment to working with your insurance on the repair.

What does the repair process look like?

First, you bring your vehicle in for a free assessment. We inspect the damage and put together a detailed repair plan. If you're going through insurance, we send the estimate to your provider for approval before any work begins. For out-of-pocket repairs, we can usually get started right away once you approve the quote. After the repair is complete, we do a final quality check and walk you through everything before you drive off.

How long will the repair take?

It depends on the extent of the damage. Minor dents and scratches can often be fixed in a few hours to a day. Bumper replacements or panel repairs typically take 2 to 5 days. More extensive collision damage that involves structural work or waiting on parts can take 1 to 3 weeks. Full restorations may take several weeks or longer. We'll give you a clear time estimate after the initial assessment and keep you updated throughout the process.

Who pays for the repair?

In most cases, your insurance company covers the cost of the repair. If the damage was caused by another driver, their insurance pays. For incidents where you're at fault, your collision coverage kicks in and you only pay your deductible. If you don't have insurance or prefer not to file a claim, we're happy to work with you directly and can provide a detailed estimate upfront so there are no surprises.

Do I have to use a body shop recommended by my insurance?

No. You have the legal right to choose any licensed body shop you want, regardless of what your insurance company suggests. Your insurer may recommend preferred shops, but they cannot require you to use one. Choosing your own shop means you pick a team you trust to do the job right, and your claim will be handled the same way either way.

What are DRPs and should I be cautious about them?

DRP stands for Direct Repair Program — an agreement where a body shop follows an insurance company's pricing and repair guidelines in exchange for referrals. The trade-off is that DRP shops may prioritize keeping costs low for the insurer over doing what's best for your vehicle. At G&S, we're fully independent. We answer to you, not an insurance company, and we always use the parts and repair methods that are right for your vehicle.

What's the difference between a body shop and a car garage?

A car garage, or mechanic shop, handles what's under the hood: engine repairs, oil changes, brake work, and other mechanical and maintenance services. A body shop specializes in the exterior and structure of your vehicle: dent repair, paint work, frame straightening, and collision damage. If your car was in an accident and has visible damage to panels, bumpers, or the frame, you need a body shop. If your engine light is on or your brakes are squeaking, that's a job for a mechanic.

About G&S Bodyworks

G&S Bodyworks & Refinishing opened its doors in 2021, but our roots in the collision industry go back much further. Owner Leonard has been in the trade since 2002 — bringing nearly 25 years of hands-on experience to every job that comes through the shop. As a small, fully independent team, we're not trying to be the biggest shop in town. We focus on doing things right: honest communication, quality repairs, and treating every customer's vehicle like it's our own. We believe great work starts with a great team, which is why we value employee satisfaction just as much as customer service. That balance is what keeps our processes sharp, our standards high, and our customers coming back.

Our team removed and replaced the full panel along with any compromised structural components, then finished with a factory-matched repaint. The result: back to pre-accident condition, inside and out.
